It was a fruitful weekend for the Winelands Police Cluster with very good arrests made for various crimes.

“A total of 124 suspects were arrested through effective crime prevention and maximum deployment from Friday 18 January until Sunday 20 January,” said police spokesperson Captain Basil Seekoei. He said the arrests were made over the entire Winelands District.

Seekoei said suspects were arrested on different charges such as possession of and dealing in drugs, housebreaking and theft, theft out of and from motor vehicles, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Some were arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol and dealing in liquor without a licence.

“The effective integrated deployments has resulted in a decrease in serious violent crimes reported in the Winelands Police Cluster,” said Brigadier Neville Malila, the acting Cluster Commander. “I want to convey my gratitude to all members and officers who contributed positively over this weekend and wish to encourage communities to work with the police in their areas to identify criminals in their midst,” added Malila.

“All the suspects will appear on specific charges in Magistrates Courts in the Winelands Police Cluster once charged,” said Seekoei.
