Wellington police have been working effortlessly to address crime in the area.

In a weekend operation conducted between Friday 22 July and Monday 25 July, 15 suspects between the ages of 21 and 52 were arrested for possession of and dealing in drugs.

Wellington Station Commander Colonel Johan Barkhuizen commended the Visible Policing Members, adding that these operations will continue as a deterrent in the area that falls under Wellington police’s jurisdiction.

He requested that community members support the police in their efforts to report illegal activities. Members of the public are urged to contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111.

All information will be treated confidentially.

The suspects appeared in the Wellington Magistrates’ Court on Monday 25 July.

No serious crimes were reported during the course of the operation.

  • On Thursday 21 July at 10:00, sterling work from the Wellington police’s Crime Prevention Unit led to the arrest of a 22-year-old man for dealing in drugs.

The accused was arrested in a stop-and-search operation in Pelikaan Street, Wellington.

Members seized about 100 small packets and two large packets of tik and 10½ Mandrax tablets to the street value of R8 000.

The suspect appeared in the Wellington Magistrate’s Court on Friday 22 July on a charge of dealing in drugs and other related charges.

  • On Saturday 16 July, Wellington police in a joint operation with ADT, neighbourhood watches, Vetus Schola Group and Dogs and All collaborated in an operation in the central business district and surrounding areas, conducting foot and vehicle patrols which led to successful arrests.

One person was arrested for robbery, another for possession of drugs, and 11 for drinking and urinating in public.

The operation was welcomed by members of the public.
