Failing matric is a huge disappointment especially after you have put in hard work and effort, however matriculants who failed still have a chance to rewrite.

“We encourage all learners who did not pass their exams not to give up and to continue doing whatever they can to complete Grade 12,” says Bronagh Hammond, spokesperson for the Western Cape Education Department (WCED).

She says the deadline for the process to have your papers re-marked or re-checked have already closed on 29 January. Candidates who want to rewrite have to register for the May/June National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams by Friday (7 February).

Not passing matric can leave candidates devastated and hopeless, however, Hammond says the department encourage such candidates to reach out to them for help.

“There are also measures in place to receive counselling for matrics who are disappointed with their results, either by approaching their school, which will put them in touch with the relevant officials in the district offices, or by phoning the Safe Schools Hotline on 0800 45 46 47.”
