On Friday 30 September the Drakenstein Municipal Council approved the ward projects for the new financial year.

Ward projects are programmes identified by the ward councillor and relevant ward committee to ensure there is a targeted and focused approach to addressing the needs of the ward not covered by normal day-to-day operations of the municipality.

The list of themes for ward projects was approved on 30 May and the projects were finalised and submitted to the council by the ward councillors in consultation with the ward committee members.

Speaker Koos le Roux says the list of themes has served as a basis for ward councillors to submit projects identified and prioritised by the ward committee for consideration and subsequent approval by council.

Each ward, which is allocated R170 000, excluding stipends to the ward committees, also has different projects on which the money will be spent. Some wards will spend more on cleaning, while other wards will spend more on social development/issues or safety.

Thirty-one of the 33 wards will spend money on cleaning, 10 wards allocated money for greening purposes, 12 wards allocated money for sports and from the 33 wards, two wards have not allocated money for safety and three wards did not allocate money for skills development.

Overall most wards allocated bulk of their R170 000 towards social upliftment and skills development projects.

Residents can find the detailed list of ward projects at the municipal website where the minutes of the 30 September 2022 council meeting were recorded.
