Enjoy an afternoon of beautiful music in the hands of young instrumentalist Matthew Lamprecht.

If you are a music lover and looking for an enjoyable Sunday afternoon outing, then Frank Pietersen Music Centre is the right place for you. On Sunday, 28 April, one its advanced learners, Matthew Lamprecht, will present a solo recital in the Music Centre’s Hall. He will be accompanied by Arno Jones. What will make this recital unique is that Matthew will not only be playing his main instrument, the violin, but also the flute and piano. He plays all these instruments at Grade 8 music level.

The Grade 10 learner at Boys’ High School started violin lessons in Grade 1 with current teacher Inge Wittenberg at the Frank Pietersen Music Centre. Every year he took part in the Eisteddfod and played Unisa exams with distinction, and was on its Roll of Honour on numerous occasions.

In 2021, his Grade 7 year, he reached the semi-finals of the Hubert van der Spuy Primary School Competition, and was also chosen to play in the Hugo Lambrechts Concerto Festival.

Still at Primary School, he decided to start piano lessons at his school (Boys’ Primary) and flute lessons at Frank Pietersen Music Centre (2018), enabling him to participate in the Wind Band of Boys’ High School. Matthew studies flute and piano with Inge Scott and Marissa von Mollendorf, respectively.

He is a member of the Senior String Ensemble and the Senior Wind Band at Frank Pietersen Music Centre. Matthew plays in the Suonare Wind Band of Boys’ High School, and he is also a member of the Cape Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and the Stellenbosch Youth Orchestra, where he is the section leader.

He is always keen to attend masterclasses and workshops for any of his three instruments.

Although Matthew is top in his grade at Boys’ High and has achieved prizes for his instruments, he remains humble, knowing very well many other learners are not as fortunate as he is.

He says the following of his musical journey: “I am immensely grateful for the unwavering support of my parents, who have gone above and beyond to provide me with every opportunity to pursue my passions.

“Additionally, I am fortunate to have a dedicated group of mentors whose guidance and passion inspire me to strive towards my best.

“I must also acknowledge the invaluable experience of taking lessons at FPMC.

“From a young age I have been immersed in a culture of regular performances and participation in chamber music groups, fostering a deep love for music that has become an integral part of my identity. This performance is simply another part of my journey with music.”

The recital will start at 16:00 in the Frank Pietersen Hall. The programme will include works by Bartok, Boulanger, Debussy, Telemann and more. There is no charge, but a donation can be made towards the Frank Pietersen Bursary Fund.

Come and enjoy a bit of social time with friends in our “tea garden” where tea, coffee and cake will be for sale between 15:00 and 15:45, also in aid of the bursary fund, making this the ideal place to be if you are a music lover.
