Nine-year-old Likuthi Gcwabe is fighting for his life after being run over by a truck in Klapmuts last week.
Noxolo Gcwabe, the mother of the victim, said her son, who was being treated at Tygerberg Hospital for severe head and internal injuries, was in a lot of pain.
“I’m not yet sure what happened,” she said. “I asked him what happened, but he is in such pain he cannot answer everything.”
Gcwabe said, what she knows is that it was a hit-and-run and that the truck driver just drove away. It occurred last Wednesday (30 November) close to Klapmuts Primary.
“He is badly injured, and I spoke to someone who said my son may not be the same person he was before the accident occurred.”
Gcwabe added she is very distressed about the situation and especially her son’s condition.
Likuthi’s accident came a day after the tragic death of Thoscio Macnico Alexander.
The 4-year-old was run over by a municipal truck owned by Drakenstein Municipality in Smartie Town on 29 November, on the corner of Blue Moon and Monica Street.
Little Thoscio died on the scene. A culpable homicide docket has been opened and is being investigated by Paarl East police detectives.
