Two cases of house invasions have been reported in Paarl over the weekend, one involving an elderly resident.

On Sunday late afternoon a 60-year-old woman was overpowered and slapped around in her home on the corner of Klein Reservoir and Theron Street.

According to the victim, a woman and a child, about 9 or 10 years old, knocked at her door begging. When she did not respond to them the woman literally kicked open the door and attacked her. She slapped her and punched her in the face before escaping with only a cellphone.

The victim pressed her panic button and Vetus Schola security guards were first on the scene, followed by the police. It was later established that her garage had been broken into and various garden implements were stolen.

The possibility of the two events being linked is being investigated.

The police are also investigating security-camera footage, which may help track the suspect down.

In an unrelated case, in Courtrai a woman and her child were caught off-guard by robbers in their house when returning from school on Thursday 15 September.

Spokesperson for Paarl police Captain Louise du Plessis said the complainant had collected her children from school and had entered the house while the suspects were inside.

One of the suspects locked the complainant and one child in a room, but the other child managed to escape and run to a neighbour’s house for help.

The suspects fled with computer equipment. Nobody sustained any injuries. Anyone with information is asked to contact Paarl police on 021 807 4139 or 082 469 1431.
