Paarl local resident Estelle Jacobs (61) and Paarl Gimnasium learner Liam Straus (16) triumphed at the World Field Archery Championships, returning home with gold medals. The World Field Archery Championships 2024 took place in August at the Itaipu Binacional in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil. Estelle and Liam were part of the South African team of 24 archers who participated in this event. Team South Africa achieved remarkable success, securing 12 gold medals, six silver medals, and three bronze medals. In addition to his gold medal, Liam set two world records for the Field and Hunter rounds. The competition spanned five days, with temperatures ranging from 13 to 31 ° C.
