Trucks that should not travel via Bains Kloof Pass are still wreaking havoc on this historic mountain pass. Residents of the area and concerned Wellington residents say over the past year at least 27 incidents have taken place, where truck drivers have blatantly ignored warning signs as well as overhead chains warning trucks not to use the pass. On Sunday morning (22 Januray) yet another truck bypassed these warnings and realising he would not be able to continue further, only when he was way into the pass, remained stuck and had to wait for assistance to reverse back down to safety. Last Thursday two trucks also caused traffic delays on the pass. This issue has been reported on numerous occasions, but no concerted effort is made by the provincial authorities to take action against drivers and trucking companies.
