Apart from the widespread devastation that this week’s flood brought, another very sad aspect of this is that most of this water will now just flow into the ocean.
The Western Cape dams are inadequate for the ever growing province and the more free water which is being distributed.
The Theewaterskloof Dam, the biggest in the province, was ridiculously designed and is far too shallow. In the hot summer months the water evaporation here is frightening. Why did Water Affairs not dig the dam deeper when it had dried up during the drought of a few years ago?
