Tiffany’s Community Centre in Paarl East, a non-profit organisation under management of MCM and Samaritan’s Feet, has a new project focusing on supporting the empowering women through skills training and job creation.

The latest in the sewing project where women in the community are trained in the skills of machine sewing. This is a collaboration between MCM and local businesses Bouckaert and Soenen and Kikka-Bernina.

MCM purchased seven state-of-the-art Bernina sewing machines from Kikka before selecting unemployed women from the community to receive training from Kikka to use them. Once they are proficient in its use they move on to local textile factories, Bouckaert and Soenen and Genuine Connection, to further their skills in using industrial equipment.

On completion of their training, the women can then be placed at open job opportunities in the manufacturing sector.

As part of this project the women have created various products at the sewing academy at Tiffany’s, such as fabric bags and stylish picnic blankets. These will soon be on sale at the Bouckaert-Soenen factory shop at 14 Turk Street, Paarl South

This project is proof of how non-profit organisations, with the collaboration of the private sector, can successfully form partnerships to build a stronger South Africa together.

So, to support this good project, with all funds going back towards Tiffany’s Community Centre project, get down to Boukhaert-Soenen on 1 Novemebr and 13 December from 09:00-14:00 where all their products will be on sale. Please note, cards only, no cash accepted.
