The return of a pair of sneakers at a clothing shop in Lady Grey Street on Friday soon turned violent when the customer and store owner began assaulting each other.

Spokesperson for Paarl police Captain Louise du Plessis said police were investigating counter-assault cases lodged on 2 September.

“It is alleged that a client had wanted to return a pair of sneakers purchased from the outlet. The store manager refused to refund the client as it was alleged the sneakers were worn more than once.”

Du Plessis said an altercation followed in which the client and store manager assaulted each other.

“The case has been referred to the senior state prosecutor for a decision on whether the two will be prosecuted.”
