Recently the Cape Winelands District Municipality (CWDM) donated over 65 water displacement devices known as toilet tummies to Huis Andrew Murray (HAM) in Wellington.
The toilet tummy is a sturdy plastic device into which an estimated two liters of water is poured. Once filled, it is placed into the cistern so that less water is used when flushing.
CWDM also supplied the home with 20 shower timers, a nifty gadget similar to an old fashioned egg timer, which will remind the young residents to keep their showers under two minutes, which will make a tangible contribution to conserving water.
“Whilst we are thankful for the rainfall we have received since winter has been upon us, we request that our citizens continue with their efforts to conserve our water and adhere to the restrictions of their local municipality. We have to save water now, throughout the winter, to ensure that we will have water throughout the coming summer,” said Executive Mayor of CWDM Ald (Dr) Helena von Schlicht at the handover.
