The son of a senior police brigadier was seriously injured when he lost control of his Toyota Hilux on Saturday evening in Berg River Boulevard in Paarl. CCTV footage clearly shows how the blue double-cab bakkie drives at high speed, hitting the curb before becoming airborne and crashing into and flattening a street light in the centre of the road, before rolling to a standstill. The incident took place near Rosendal Street in the boulevard, close to the young man’s Treurnicht Street home at 22:45 that evening. He was driving in a southerly direction. The driver was flung from the vehicle and taken to Paarl Mediclinic with numerous injuries. There was one passenger, who was also injured. Paarl police are investigating a case of negligent and reckless driving.
