Write your own story of hope by signing up for the JumpStart Retail Frontline Programme (RFP).
A skills-development programme powered by the Mr Price Foundation, the RFP is designed to unlock opportunities for youth to entry level positions in the retail world. In the last financial year 4 933 youth were upskilled through JumpStart.
Mr Price Foundation is a non-profit organisation with a goal to build employability and income-generating opportunities for unemployed youth through skills development.
The foundation’s JumpStart Retail Frontline Programme has impacted thousands of young people since its inception in 2007, including 22-year-old Izerie Levember, Store Manager at Mr Price Sport in Paarl.
“It’s through JumpStart that I am where I am today. If it weren’t for JumpStart giving me an opportunity to get work and gain experience I don’t know where I would be now, because it was and still is a struggle to find a job in our economy.”
A two-week work-readiness programme, the RFP is composed of an online life-skills course, in-person training and interviews, and one week of hands-on work experience in a retail environment.
The programme gives youth the opportunity to gain credible work experience, valuable life skills and certificates to add to their CVs as well as the opportunity to be workplace ready for entry-level positions.
Levember matriculated in 2018 and completed the JumpStart RFP at the age of 18. In December 2019 he joined the Mr Price family and began his rapid career progression, moving from Store Associate to Supervisor and Assistant Manager. Today he is Store Manager. But he’s not finished yet!
Energetic, hardworking and motivated, Levember lives by his motto of “always live life to the fullest”.
JumpStart programmes are continually evolving to ensure the candidates it produces fulfil the needs of the retail and manufacturing value chain. Job placements are not guaranteed on completion of training – although Mr Price Foundation works closely with its employer partners to create a pipeline of suitable, work-ready talent.
The JumpStart Retail Frontline Programme is currently open for applications in the Western Cape. Applicants should be unemployed South Africans, aged 18 to 33, with a matric pass and no criminal record. You’ll need 200 MB data and a smartphone or computer to complete your application and online assessment.
