The 61st Berg River Canoe Marathon started yesterday (6 June) from Val de Vie, on a gruelling four day race and 240 kms to Velddrif on the West Coast. On a very cold and misty morning 93 brave rowers started the race. Local veteran Jannie Malherbe is looking for his 49th finish at the age of 83, and Giel van Deventer will be looking for a record 51 finishes.
