Problem Premises Bylaw not implemented in Dorp Street

Despite promises by the Drakenstein Municipality to address the problem of a derelict property in the heart of Paarl, in Dorp Street, nothing has yet been done about it nor about the extreme problem of multiple vagrants living on it, or the large amounts of litter strewn in and around the property. Nearby business owners have also had to spend thousands of rands to try and secure their properties because of the lawless goings on of vagrants living on the adjacent property. They say that sincePaarl Post had reported on the problem months ago and the municipality said it was acting against the property owner, the problem was just intensifying. The municipality, which earlier this year trumpeted its Problem Premises Bylaw, has evidently not implemented it in Dorp Street.Photo: Readers photo
