Paarl police, with the help of Vetus Schola Security, arrested two suspects and managed to recover some of the items stolen from the Kolskoot Deli and Butchery in the early hours of Friday (15 September).
According to Capt Louise du Plessis, police spokesperson, local police received information of suspected stolen goods being sold in Northern Paarl.
This led to the arrest of two male suspects, one a well-known drug dealer, she said.
Du Plessis said the items consisted of frozen meats and biltong, among other foodstuff.
The police investigation then linked the two suspects to the robbery at Kolskoot.
The spokesperson said both appeared in the Paarl Magistrates’ Court on Monday and were expected to remain in custody until their next appearance on Tuesday 26 September.
Kolskoot has since commended the officers and security company for their prompt and effective response.
“At such times it is reassuring to know we have such a dedicated and efficient police force working tirelessly to protect us,” the establishment said in a Facebook post. “We are grateful to have collaborated with the police team and will forever be thankful for their efforts in recovering some of our stolen belongings.
“Your selfless service does not go unnoticed. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to keeping our community safe. We are proud to have you as our local law enforcement and look forward to a continued partnership in creating a safer, more secure living environment for all.
“To the Vetus Schola Security team, your quick response and cooperation with the police team have made a significant impact in this case.”
According to Kolskoot the stolen items were sold at a store not too far from its premises.
