Cape Winelands – The Boland Public Order Policing (Pops) unit made several successful recoveries and arrests this week as part of ongoing operations aimed at ensuring community safety during the festive season.
According to police spokesperson Capt Basil Seekoei, vigilant members of the Boland Pops recovered a 9mm firearm and ammunition, as well as a green Mercedes-Benz, in separate incidents in the Mbekweni policing area.

“The firearm was recovered after a suspect was chased on foot and threw the firearm away,” said Seekoei. “In a separate case, valuable information led our members to recover a stolen vehicle that had been reported stolen in Parow.”
In another, unrelated operation, police arrested a 32-year-old suspect for possession of drugs in Magnolia Street, Paarl East, on Wednesday, 29 October. Officers seized drugs with an estimated street value of R1,400.
“These operations form part of our efforts under the Safer Festive Season campaign,” Seekoei explained. “We will continue to maintain a strong police presence across the Cape Winelands District to ensure the safety of all residents.”

The Boland Pops Unit Commander, Col Kabous Louw, commended her members for their dedication. She “applauded her members and encouraged them to continue making the community safe within the Cape Winelands District,” Seekoei added.
The suspect arrested in the drug case is expected to appear in the Paarl Magistrate’s Court soon on drug-related charges. Police investigations into all cases are ongoing.
