Western Cape Premier Alan Winde on Wednesday (15 October) attended the opening of DSV Shift Academy’s brand new facility at the Faure Street Stadium in Paarl.
This will serve as a safe and quiet space where the academy’s young cyclists can study and break away from the hustle and distractions of their everyday environments.
The new facility aims to provide the cyclists with, not only a dedicated area to focus on their academics, but also a supportive setting that nurtures personal growth, discipline and balance between sport and education.
This according to Jackie Lange who, with her hushand Malcolm, established the academy in 2021.
She said this upgrade had created two vital spaces. “There is a dedicated cycling and training area, supported by state-of-the-art Technogym equipment. It also serves as a comfortable, safe learning area, where children can focus on their homework and education after training. This development ensures the academy continues to nurture not only athletes but also well-rounded, confident young individuals who are prepared for life beyond sport.”
Lange said the academy remains committed to its vision of creating opportunity, to inspire hope and to use sports education as a powerful tool for youth development in South Africa.
“Through mentorship, structured training and access to facilities normally reserved for elite athletes, the DSV SHIFT Academy provides underprivileged children with a chance to grow in body, mind and spirit.”
Winde, who also happens to share a love for cycling, said: “To the whole DSV team thank you so much for what you do. Thank you for the hope and wholesome-rounded grounding that you give to young people.”
Among the many highlights of 2025, the Academy celebrates the remarkable achievement of several of its riders being selected to represented South Africa on the international stage.
