The Western Cape is preparing to make equestrian history this June when it hosts its first-ever South African Western Mounted Games (SAWMGA) Regional Championships at Igqala Park near Paarl from 14-16 June.

This landmark event represents a significant milestone for the sport in the region, bringing together riders and horses in a thrilling display of speed, agility, and precision that has captivated equestrian enthusiasts across South Africa.

Western Mounted Games is a fast-paced equestrian discipline that tests both horse and rider combinations through a series of timed events requiring exceptional coordination and skill. Over the weekend, competitors will tackle all 13 official SAWMGA games, demonstrating the remarkable partnership that develops between horse and rider.

The competition emphasises fair and accurate time measurement, ensuring that the fastest and most precise partnerships are rewarded for their efforts.

Event organisers are particularly proud of the family-oriented nature of Western Mounted Games, welcoming participants of all ages and skill levels.

The competition is designed to be inclusive, with day riders welcome to participate through SAEF entry level registration and temporary SAWMGA membership. Online entries are available at www.sawmga.co.za, with SAWMGA entries closing on 9 June and SANESA entries closing on 4 June.

Spectators can enjoy the competition free of charge, with organisers encouraging visitors to bring camp chairs and gazebos to secure comfortable viewing spots for what promises to be an unforgettable weekend of equestrian action.

Food, drinks, and various vendor stalls will be available, while prizes await riders across all categories during the three-day competition.
