Francois van der Watt (centre), CEO of Paarl Hospital, has been instrumental in assisting the Rotary Club of Paarl with a special cataract project to be executed at Vredendal Hospital, a satellite of Paarl Hospital. With him are club president Marita van der Sluys (left) and Rotarian Dr Pietie van Aarde. The club has arranged for three ophthalmologists and an optometrist from Belgium as well as four additional volunteer team members to visit Vredendal to do 160 cataract operations over the course of a week. There is a long waiting list for such operations. The club is also sponsoring the accommodation of visitors to Vredendal and transport to the town. It plans to do a similar project in the Paarl area.
