Please allow me to comment on the front page of the Paarl Post dated 6 June with regards to the Mayor and his “Cabinet”.
I am a resident of Paarl for the last 20 years and was also privileged to serve on the Audit Committee of the local municipality.
With regard to the above I would like to mention that I do not know the new Mayor, nor do I know to which party he belongs, for my research has not gone so far. All I wish to say is that he promised to put a “Cabinet’’ that would be in the interests of the community together and that they should give him a chance to apply his mind.
I am not sure what his experience of local government is, but I do think his choice of a cabinet was made on the strength of the experience possessed by the existing Mayoral Committee, as they could most probably assist him in navigating the difficulties he has to contend with to provide a good and acceptable service to the residents of Drakenstein.
I would like him to take the residents of Drakenstein into his confidence by replying to my assumption of whether it is correct.
In my mind, all we, as residents, have to do is to hold him and his committee accountable by evaluating if indeed his choice is correct.
I wish him everything of the best and God’s richest blessings with his great responsibility.
