In one week in Drakenstein the election took place, the 2024-’25 budget was approved and the Mayor appointed his Mayoral Committee.
Definitely a very busy week that affects the lives of all residents of the valley.
The new Mayor, Stephen Korabie, appointed by the DA when his predecessor Conrad Poole got the boot due to alleged irregularities, took his time to appoint his new “cabinet”.
But instead of the proverbial a new broom sweeps clean, Korabie’s Mayoral Committee remained mainly unchanged from Poole’s.
Eight of 10 committee members served under him, some of their names also surfacing during the maladministration investigation into Poole, in the pay-for-work scandal, alleging they may have been in cahoots with him.
It is therefore surprising that new blood has not been sought to walk the path into the future with Korabie, in this way assuring residents of the valley this new clean administration will deliver only the best for their taxpaying residents.
Korabie further seemingly ignored calls by some oppositions parties for the number of Mayco members to be reduced as a means of cutting salary expenditure.
