ATM FRAUD

. A visitor to Paarl from the Netherlands became the victim of an ATM fraud incident on Monday (23 October) at a shopping centre in Southern Paarl. He was allegedly approached by a male suspect stating that payment must be done via a credit card for the parking bay. According to Capt Louise du Plessis, a police spokesperson, the victim unknowingly accompanied the suspects to the ATM and was defrauded of approximately R23 000.

Du Plessis has called on businesses and shopping centres to assist with curbing ATM fraud by indicating through signs where parking is free of charge. Paarl police have commended businesses who have put up warning signs against ATM fraud, and a decrease is already seen here.
