I read with interest about the new proposed public bylaws planned for public amenities in the Drakenstein municipal area. (Paarl Post, 10 November 2022)

We do not have a shortage of bylaws in our valley, just a serious shortage of manpower/will power to enforce them.

I quote from the article: “Penalties will be instituted against any person who contravenes or fails to comply with a provision of this bylaw.”

Year after year we have the same problems recurring along the Berg River with bylaws being completely ignored.

Most years the ratepayers end up having a meeting with the Mayor and his committee to try and get answers to why the bylaws are not being effectively enforced. And now we have more bylaws!

We sincerely hope we will see a strict enforcement of bylaws in future – without fear or favour.
