Five young media interns recently started with their intensive one-month practical placements at Radio KC and Koinonia.
They are the first of the intakes and will gain valuable experience and knowledge of the workings of a community radio station, including exposure to administration, finance, management, technical, marketing and broadcasting components.
This follows their recent and very successful youth and media camp where interested participants were invited to apply for the internships.
“We are very proud of Jaydene Coetzee, Marchy Damon, Merlin Swartz, Marché Pietersen and Chester Williams who responded and declared their interest in broadcasting and media,” says Claudine Barnes, marketing and communications officer at Koinonia Youth Centre.
“On behalf of Koinonia we would like to thank Vernon Adams and Dawn Noemdoe for conducting interviews with successful participants and subsequently ensuring their shadowing placements within Radio KC.”
After their first week, the eager youngsters have already brought new energy and creativity to Koinonia and Radio KC.
If you have an interest in media and working with the youth, visit the office at Koinonia, 107 Breda Street, Paarl.
You can also join their Facebook page for updates. And remember to tune in every Tuesday at 16:05 on 107.7fm for the Youth on the Move radio slot.
“We are a diverse young group at Koinonia and we have a youth radio programme called Truth of The Youth and we are in the process of recruiting teenagers who are Grade 8 to Grade 10,” said Barnes.
