Nederburg Primary School was the beneficiary of the latest act of kindness of the Human Nature Project.

Shane Titana, founder of the Human Nature Community Project in Mbekweni, and his team visited the school in Paarl East on Tuesday, when they donated sanitary pads for the girls.

This follows a recent donation for Dal Josaphat Primary School girls, while an organisation in Langa township creates porridge packs for the Good Hope Day Care Centre for Children with Disabilities.

Titana said his mother instilled the principle of philanthropy in him at a tender age, and ever since he has had an almost innate desire to do good for others.

This is the reason he founded the Human Nature Community Project.

This registered non-profit was launched in 2019 as a sanitary towel drive for schools in Mbekweni. His partners in it are Asiphe Kamte, Nwabisa Mvula and Dumisani Bolani. They all live in Mbekweni.

Titana says market research showed there are young girls who do not attend schools on a monthly basis due to lack of sanitary towels.

The members of Human Nature Community Project believe a girl child’s right to education should not be compromised because they are girls. So they decided to do something about it, which is really how the organisation came about.

“Since we started we have donated more than 15 000 sanitary towels to community members and schools in Mbekweni (Langabuya Primary School, Imboniselo Primary School, Mbekweni Higher Primary, Ishlumelo Junior Secondary School and Desmond Mpilo Tutu Secondary School), Wellington (Van Wyksvlei Primary School, Wellington Primary School), Hermon (Rondeheuwel Primary School) and Stellenbosch (Vlottenburg Primary School) to mention just a few.”

Over time, Titana explains, they saw there was a dire need for school uniforms, shoes and stationery. The shocking and unhygienic state of some school toilets also caught their attention.

They felt the need to act on it and embarked on the following projects:

1. Renovating 13 girls’ toilets at Imboniselo Primary School (first phase March 2021, second July 2021)

2. Donating stationery packs at all primary schools in Mbekweni

3. Donating 100 pairs of school shoes and shoes at Desmond Mpilo Tutu Secondary and 50 at Langabuya Primary.

The group is also cooperating with Samaritan Feet South Africa, an organisation that donates school shoes.

It also recently helped the Heart NPO in Paarl with a donation of pads.
