Businesses are warned to verify client information before extending credit purchases or services or products.

The Paarl police is currently investigating a fraud incident in which a counterfeit ID was used to open an account at a local furniture store in Lady Grey Street.

Police spokesperson Capt Louise du Plessis reported the suspect had purchased items to the value of about R21 000 when head office noticed something was amiss.

“The head office contacted the store and informed them that the identity document was fraudulent,” she said. “The suspect furthermore supplied false information on the application document.”
