Here are the proud members of the Wellington Community Forum, who wish to make a difference in the lives of homeless people inter alia by launching a mobile laundry initiative for the homeless.

The Wellington Community Forum (WCF), which operates mainly in the area, is seeking the assistance of residents and businesses to start a mobile laundry service for the homeless.

According to Hilton-Lesley Anthony, chair of WCF, the Mobile Laundry for Homeless People is an immediate-action project that will have an instant impact on the lives of our homeless people’s health, safety and well-being.

In light of this it is expected to contribute to the growth and beauty of the town, and Drakenstein as a whole.

“Access to hygiene is a basic human right, and therefore WCF is committed to curbing the spread of mould, scabies and bedbugs among homeless people by washing and drying the clothes of homeless people once a week,” Anthony said.

“It takes an hour to wash and dry clothes and during that time while everyone is waiting for their clothes, WCF, with the help of public and private sectors, will take the opportunity to implement and facilitate social life skills interventions to help better our homeless people’s lives as well enhance their psychological way of thinking which will ultimately contribute to the betterment of society.”

He emphasises the Mobile laundry for Homeless People is neither a business nor a lucrative project, but a social civic project, And therefore he says the WCF appeals to the community to please consider making a generous donation towards this life changing initiative.

To launch it, new or second-hand gifts, in the form of a generator, two 250 F jo-jo water tank (one for clean water and one for waste water), one 4 m double-load trailer, one washing machine, one tumble-dryer and washing powder.

Donations can be made in any way or form.

According to Anthony, WCF will launch this project in Wellington and expand it to Paarl and surrounding areas of Drakenstein and will consider expanding to the wider Cape Winelands.
