Five young people from South Africa, who are matriculating this year, stand a chance to spend six days in Antarctica with the adventurous Riaan Manser.

He is known for taking on adventures across the world without any fear of what may cross his path. In December 2013 he and his girlfriend, Vashti Geldenhuys, set sail from Morocco and rowed all the way to North America.

It took the couple 105 days and about 8 000 kilometres to reach their destination in Miami. The adrenalin junkie also has a show, The Odyssey, where he takes ordinary South Africans with him on his ventures.

Now, Manser has decided to give five local matrics the chance to see and explore Antarctica in an educational adventure with him in January 2021.

Joining them on the trip will be a group of professors from Stellenbosch University as well as Professor Jonathan Jansen.

To enter all you need to do is answer the following question: If saving nature and the environment is a world problem – how can you help? What can you do in your own home town that you believe will make a positive impact on the planet and possibly Antarctica?

Entries are open to all 2020 matrics and can be submitted online via the website www.matricsinantarctica.co.za. Those who are interested should enter before 31 October.

Participants will be chosen based on their answers and not their high school achievements.

Also note that it doesn’t matter which subjects you studied at school, anyone can enter.
