With level 4 of the lockdown kicking off from Friday 1 May, South Africans have been able to soothe all those cravings for fast food for the first time in over a month.
Roman’s Pizza was seemingly the first fast food outlet in Paarl to open its doors on Friday morning. According to Marelize Boshoff from the Romans Pizza branch in Paarl, they started operating from 11 o’clock taking calls for delivery and online orders on the Mr Delivery and Uber Eats apps.
“So far we have been very busy. We are grateful and it has been going good,” says Boshoff. Their operating hours are from 10:30 to 18:30.
KFC is another popular franchise that has since opened its doors for takeaways. From 09:00 to 18:30 customers can place their orders for KFC delivery on the Mr Delivery and Uber Eats apps.
Due to the high demand, Nathalie Pedro, area manager of KFC in Paarl, says customers may have to wait a little longer for their delivery due to the high demand.
“Normally Uber Eats and Mr Delivery’s pick-up times are between 10 to 15 minutes, but because of the backlog on their side it will take approximately an hour.”
McDonalds in Riebeeck Drive is also one of the limited McDonald franchises to start operating under level 4 lockdown.
Steers, Debonairs Pizza, Wimpy and Spur were, however, not operating when Paarl Post visited the stores on Saturday 2 May. Burger King also did not list its franchise in Paarl under the limited stores to operate during the lockdown.
Consumers will not be allowed to visit the fast-food outlets to get takeaways and food deliveries will only be permitted between 09:00 and 19:00 daily as per the lockdown regulations.
