The trucks driving, illegally, in Bains Kloof Pass takes the joy out of taking a scenic stroll with ones family.

Yes, several warning signs have been erected by the department of infrastructure, and yes, height restrictions have also been put up, but it is not enough.

Why can logistics companies not warm their drivers not to drive through the pass and place trackers in to see if they do not obey these rules. Why can’t the department of infrastucture not take other actions as the current ones clearly do not seem to work?

Why can law enforcement or traffic officers not be station at either side of the pass during peak traffic?

Different role-players have to work together in combating these problems.

It is not only a municipal or provincial problem.

The onus also rests on the trucking companies to ensure the drivers follow the correct routes. Why is this so difficult?

In trying to cut the costs by taking a short route, it ends up costing more for both the logistics company as well as the taxpayer.
