The police are investigating the circumstances in which a 41-year-old truck driver was found dead in his truck on the Dutoitskloof Pass outside Paarl.
Sources close to the investigation say that it appears as if someone fled the scene with part of the truck’s load.
The truck driver’s body was found in the stationary truck at around 09:00.
Police spokesperson Capt Louise du Plessis said Paarl police are currently investigating the circumstances of the death of a truck driver who was found with multiple stab wounds in the cargo truck he was driving in the Du Toitkloof pass on Friday, 19 August.
Shortly before 09:00 Paarl police was informed of a stationary truck on the pass that was still idling. There was however no sign of the truck driver.
On investigation, the body of the driver was found inside the truck with multiple stab wounds, said Du Plessis.
It was later determined that various cargo items on the truck were missing.
The truck and deceased were travelling from Pietermaritzburg to Cape Town when the incident had occurred.
This incident comes in the light of various other incidents in which truck drivers have fallen victim to large-scale cargo theft throughout the province.
Three weeks ago a truck was seized on a Paarl north farm containing millions of rands of stolen electronic devices, presumably also stolen from cargo trucks.
