On Tuesday Drakenstein Municipality announced its Electro-Technical Department had started the process of fixing faulty street lights in areas that had been without electricity owing to cable theft and vandalism.
Van der Stel Street and Jan van Riebeeck Drive in Paarl have been targeted repeatedly by criminals and have been without street lights for extended periods as a result. Not only those street lights but also those in other parts of the municipality will be now fixed in sections, as they receive their feeds from various substations.
The municipality requests that residents be patient, as the aim is to fix all affected street lights over a period.
It is also offering a reward of up to R5 000 to anyone who provides credible information that can lead to the successful arrest and conviction of suspects involved in any criminal offence against the municipality.
The municipality urges Drakenstein’s residents to report any suspicious-looking activity, especially those relating to cable theft and vandalism, to its 24/7 control room on 021 807 8508 or to the police. Anonymous tip-offs are also welcomed and can be made to the municipality at 021 807 8508 or 080 131 3553 toll free.
