On Wednesday 31 May, 19 new peace officers graduated in Paarl East, ready to protect residents by helping to enforce municipal regulations.
This peace officer programme forms part of the Western Cape Safety Plan, which prioritises the strengthening of Municipal Law Enforcement capacity across the Western Cape, particularly to enhance urban and rural safety, and combat crime within communities.
The peace officers were trained at the Chrysalis Academy, an initiative of the Western Cape Provincial Government. The training equipped the individuals with the knowledge and skills to serve as law enforcement officers and traffic wardens.
Drakenstein Municipality’s Executive Mayor Conrad Poole applauded the graduates. “It gives me great pleasure to celebrate the accomplishment of these great young men and women who have become ambassadors of their respective communities,” he said.
The group was also addressed by Western Cape Premier Alan Winde and the Provincial Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety, Reagen Allen.
