I often read comments both on social media and in the newspaper about the lawless minibus-taxi cowboys all over town.
And although this public outcry continues, it seems the municipality just doesn’t deem it necessary to take any action.
For years now it is chaotic in Lady Grey Street, especially at the crossing with the Berg River Boulevard, where taxis continuously jump traffic lights and, in general, drive recklessly, almost forcing other vehicles off the road.
But because no action is being taken towards these drivers the arrogance is just getting worse, and throughout Paarl they are driving as if the roads belong to them!
Recently on an early morning I had stopped at the red traffic lights at the boulevard in Main Road, wanting to turn right into the boulevard. Firstly, a taxi drove at high speed in Main Road, travelling south, and long after the traffic lights had turned red he just simply drove through them.
Then, at this very spot taxis, morning, noon and night, just bypass cars waiting to turn left safely onto the boulevard illegally on the left, and then at the boulevard dangerously turn into it right in front of them.
There are so many opportunities for Law Enforcement to act against these lawless drivers, but apparently the traffic chiefs are just not willing to deal with this issue.
Can someone at the municipality please take heed and make a plan for the safety of all motorists and pedestrians in town?
