Four suspects were nabbed following the discovery of R165 000 worth of copper at Huguenot Tunnel on Saturday.



While many were finding ways to beat the heat on Saturday, Paarl police officers were finding stolen copper.

According to spokesperson Capt Louise du Plessis, four men from De Doorns were arrested on the N1 in the vicinity of the Huguenot Tunnel at around 05:50 on 22 January.

“Members of Paarl police were busy with patrols when they pulled over a charcoal VW Polo. The occupants were searched in addition to the vehicle in which cables to the approximate value of R165 000 was found.

“The suspects were arrested and appeared in the Paarl Magistrates’ Court on Monday (24 January) for the possession of stolen property belonging to Transnet.”

Du Plessis said the suspects have been remanded into custody until the 1 February for a bail application.
