Mob justice resulted in the death of one man while another was injured in Mbekweni on Sunday.
According to police spokesman, WO Nceba Vanqa, a 46-year-old man was killed while a 31-year-old man was injured during “people’s justice” in the V-Block area, Mbekweni.
He said: “The incident occurred on Sunday evening at about 21:45. Police received a report that a ‘Bundu Court’ was happening at the address. On their arrival they found the injured victim at the back of a residence, as well as the deceased covered in blood.
“The victim, identified as Sive Mtwecu (31) from Drommedaris Street was taken to Paarl Hospital while Patrick Makhosi (46), aka Pantsula, from Langabuya area was declared dead on the scene.”
The motive is still unknown.
A murder case docket was registered.
Vanqa added that the Mbekweni Acting Station Commander Capt James Veldsman condemns the incident.
“Capt Veldsman pleads that community members not take the law into their own hands but rather report criminal activities anonymously to the police station or call his office on 021 868 9900/05.”
