On Friday 31 January, Paarl Police Station bade farewell to Col Zithulele Xela, Acting Station Commander, who retired after 36 years of service. He was stationed at Paarl for 19 years after being promoted to Paarl in September 2006 as detective commander. He was admired not only by his colleagues, but also the public and local community policing forum, with whom he communicated on a regular basis concerning policing issues and strategies in the area. Xela, whose retirement will commence in the Eastern Cape, is being replaced by Col May-Louise Dyers (right), and the position remains an acting one. With them is Col Esperanza Beneke.
