The South African Weather Service has issued a yellow level four alert for hazardous winds and high seas linked to a cold front expected to arrive this weekend in the Western Cape.The bulk of the anticipated rainfall is set to occur on Saturday, affecting the Cape Winelands, including the Drakenstein Municipality, the Overberg and the City of Cape Town. However, strong winds are forecast to begin on Friday.

According to a statement by the City of Cape Town (CoCT) “strong to gale-force north-westerly to westerly winds are predicted along the Western Cape coast from Friday evening through to Saturday evening, with wind speeds likely to ease from Saturday afternoon onwards”.

Possible consequences include trees being blown over, roof damage, an elevated risk of wildfires, and interruptions to coastal operations.

Residents are encouraged to secure any loose items around their homes, such as garden furniture, and to take precautions to prevent damage to garage doors, sliding doors, and windows.

Drivers are advised to stay alert for potential hazards on the roads, including fallen branches or other debris.
