67 children of Mbekweni were gifted on Mandela Day thanks to the Val de Vie Foundation.

In the true spirit of Nelson Mandela, 67 children of Mbekweni each received a large food parcel, thanks toe the Val de Vie Foundation and Gift of the Givers.

Every year with Mandela Day on 18 July, the plight of the needy is highlighted. And this year Mandela Day was accentuated as South Africa and the entire world is in the grip of a pandemic of epic proportions, leading to much more hunger and poverty than ever before.Yet the Val de Vie Foundation (VdVF) was still able to join hands with compassionate partners to be able to better the lives of 67 young children and their loved ones in Mbekweni and Groendal, Franschhoek.

To celebrate Madiba’s birthday the VdVF and their longtime partners’ Hope Through Action in Mbekweni and Groendal hosted 67 children in each of their community sports centres.

The on the ground organization was coordinated by Score (who run both centres) and Gift of the Givers. An additional 333 vulnerable children in Mbekweni received gifts as well. In total with the combined sponsorship of VdVF, TFG and Gift of the Givers Foundation they were able to distribute almost R220 000 worth of blankets, food, hygiene packs and celebratory Madiba Birthday party packs to 1 000 children in the Valley.

Due to the pandemic, the sports centres first had to be thoroughly made safe for the children and this was done by completely being sanitize and disinfect by Neutra-Fog using their green technology product. On arrival at both venues all attendees received masks and hand sanitizer.

The children from Mbekweni and Groendal each received a beautiful purple blanket donated by TFG, plus 10kg rice, 10kg maize, hygiene pack and a Birthday Party pack. Another 430 most vulnerable learners of Paarl East children identified by Khula received their very own blanket.
