Vergas in badkamer: ’n Voormalige Paarlse meisie, mev. Susara (Baba) Fourie (20) het hierdie week in Windhoek beswyk nadat sy per ongeluk in die badkamer van ’n karavaanpark deur gas oorweldig is. Mev. Fourie word oorleef deur haar 24-jarige eggenoot, mnr. Johan Fourie en twee klein kindertjies van 2 jaar en 12 maande.

Container of plastic for grapes: New plastic containers for grapes are being manufactured by a firm at Epping. It has been designed for grapes only and no other type of fruit. The idea of this type of plastic grape box was first mooted a year ago. The prime object was to produce a box without shop edges so as not to damage the grapes.This will be made available to farmers also through normal cooperative channels. Farmers can fetch them direct from the factory at the reduced cash price of R1,55 a box against R1,70 a box through other channels.

Genoeg water maar wees versigtig: Hoewel Paarl se waterposisie tans goed is, het die voorsitter van die geriewekomitee, mnr A.D. van Wyk, ’n waarskuwing tot die publiek gerig om water spaarsaam te gebruik. “Ons moet versigtig wees, die posisie mag heeltemal anders wees oor drie maande,” het hy bygevoeg.

Youth was not with his unit: A youth was arrested at his home here at 5 a.m. He is doing his military training elsewhere and was found to be missing from his unit. The youth was taken to Cape Town from where he was sent back to his unit.

Baseball makes a start: Baseball at Paarl, which has just been revived here, has got off to a good start. The Paarl baseballers played their first match of the season when they met the powerful Strand-Somerset West team, losing only by 10-7. At one stage Paarl were actually leading by 7-2 and a major upset seemed to be looming. Strand-SW then took a grip on the game and edged Paarl out.
