Hennie Mostert (Renault Gordini) het sedert die 2de Heuwelren elke jaar sy eie rekord verbeter en verlede jaar die ongelooflike tyd van 1 min. 16,4 sek. opgestel.
Accident at 70 m.p.h.: Driving at seventy miles an hour along the National Road between Paarl and Cape Town, Mr. Jan du Preez, of the Huguenot Cycle Works collided with the driving shaft of a fifty ton cement tanker. The driving shaft, weighing 200 lb., suddenly fell out of the giant tanker and right in front of Mr. Du Preez, who was driving his car a short distance behind at seventy miles an hour.

Mountain dams are full: Paarl is not experiencing any water problems. The three reservoirs on Paarl Mountain are full and their combined capacity is nearly 300 million gallons. Paarl pumps water into the reservoirs from the Berg River and is also entitled to a few million gallons a day from the Wemmershoek Dam which incidentally is less than half full and is causing concern. Paarl’s rainfall for 1972 exceeds that of last year.

Supermarket burglary: A gang, thought to be six strong, broke into Labori Supermarket in the Main Street, Suider Paarl, and got away with R1 000 goods packed into ten suitcases – and the fierce watch-dog, placed in the shop to guard against burglars. But they left behind them R650 in cash which was in a big safe.
