The amended school calendar for 2021 has been published in the government gazette on Friday (2 October) by the basic education department.

According to minister Angie Motshekga the revision comes after she acted in terms of the National Education Policy Act no. 27 of 1996 and consulted with the council of education ministers.

With the unexpected Covid-19-pandemic this year, learners have missed out on a lot of time and contact classes with teachers.

This has put pressure on schools to cram in as much of this year’s curriculum work as possible before learners have to write their final exams and control tests.

The new calendar is as follows:. 27 January – 31 March (1st Term). 13 April – 25 June (2nd Term). 13 July – 23 September (3rd Term). 5 October – 8 December (4th Term)
